The Handshake I’ll Never Forget

 The Handshake I’ll Never Forget

It was just before Christmas.

I don’t even remember if there were lights up yet or if anything felt festive.
It was just another busy day at the hotel.

I remember feeling tired - the kind of tired that sits deep in your chest. The kind that comes from carrying everything quietly. Being a mum. Being strong. Trying to keep going no matter what.

And then, something unexpected happened.

The hotel owner walked up to me.
He didn’t say much.

He just looked at me, shook my hand…
and pressed something into my hand, gently, like it was meant just for me.

He simply said,
“this is yours.”

That was it.

No big speech.
No attention.
No making a scene.

Just kindness.

And I couldn’t hold it together.

I had to go to the back.

Because in that moment… it wasn’t just about what he gave me.
It was everything.

Being seen.
Being understood.
Someone knowing my situation without me having to explain it.

He knew I was a widow.
He knew I bring my daughter to work every day.
He knew life hasn’t been easy.

And just before Christmas…
he chose to be kind.

And Today…

It’s March now.

And I’m just sitting here… again in tears… thinking about that moment.

Because it stayed with me.

Not just what he did -
but how it made me feel.

Like I wasn’t invisible.
Like someone noticed.
Like maybe… I wasn’t carrying everything alone.

A Small Reminder 🤍

Sometimes the smallest moments break us…
because they reach the parts we’ve been holding together for too long.

Kindness doesn’t have to be loud to matter.

Sometimes it’s just:

• a quiet gesture
• a few simple words
• someone saying “I see you” without actually saying it

My Little Bright Spot

I bring my daughter with me to work every day.

It’s not how I imagined life.
But she laughs. She makes new friends. She finds joy in places I didn’t expect.

And somehow… through everything…
we’re still building something good.

Save This 🤍

If you’re going through something right now:

You are not invisible.
Even if it feels like it.

There are still good people.
Still quiet kindness.
Still moments that remind you to keep going.

A Quiet Ending

Life is still uncertain.
Some days are still heavy.

But I will never forget that moment.

That handshake.
Those words - this is yours.

And the reminder that…
kindness still exists in this world.

And maybe, one day soon…
life will feel lighter.

For me. For my daughter.

Until then - we keep going 🤍
