A Rainy Day, Cheese Biscuits & Little Moments That Matter

Rainy Day Baking With Kids: A Simple Cheese Biscuit Memory

Some days don’t go as planned.

Today was one of those very windy, very rainy days where the sky stayed grey all afternoon and the house felt a little quieter than usual.

I’ve been a little quiet here lately too. Not because I disappeared forever, but because behind the scenes I’ve been working on something special - creating new journals and books that I hope will help families capture their little everyday moments.

But today reminded me that the real magic doesn’t happen on perfect days.

It happens on rainy ones.

A Kitchen Adventure (Led by My Daughter)

This afternoon my daughter decided we should bake something.

Not a complicated recipe.
Not a big Pinterest project.

Just cheese biscuits.

And honestly… she did most of it herself.

Mixing.
Pouring.
Sprinkling cheese everywhere (Including the floor. Have to tell you that one of our dog was very happy).

The kitchen smelled warm and buttery, the rain was tapping on the windows, and for a moment the whole world slowed down.

Those are the moments I wish we could bottle.

Not the perfect ones.

The real ones.

Cheese Crackers (Savoury Cheese Biscuits)

Ingredients

  • 300 g flour

  • 220 g butter (or margarine)

  • 8 g salt

  • 220 g grated cheese

  • 1 whole egg

  • 1 tablespoon sour cream

Instructions

  1. Mix all the ingredients together and knead into a dough.

  2. Put the dough in the refrigerator for 1 hour.

  3. Roll the dough out very thin (about 3 mm).

  4. Cut the dough into small triangles or circles.

  5. Use a straw or skewer to poke small holes in each triangle (to make them look like cheese).

  6. Brush the tops with beaten egg.

  7. Bake in a 195°C oven (top and bottom heat) for about 15 minutes, until golden.

A Simple Rainy Day Idea for Kids

If you're stuck inside with kids on a rainy day, try this little ritual:

Let them be the chef.

Even if it's messy.

Even if the measurements aren't perfect.

Even if you end up with flour on your shirt.

Children feel so proud when they lead the activity.

Today's cheese biscuits may not have looked bakery-perfect… but my daughter thought they were the best biscuits ever made.

And honestly, she might be right.

Save This Rainy Day Memory Idea

Instead of letting days like this disappear, try this:

Write down one small moment from the day.

Just one.

Maybe it's:

• the smell of baking
• the sound of rain on the windows
• something funny your child said
• the way they proudly showed their creation

These tiny moments become the memories we treasure most later.

A Little Update From The Playful Attic

While I’ve been quiet here, I’ve been working on something very close to my heart.

My Guided Baby Journal is almost ready and will be live on Amazon very soon.

It’s designed to help parents capture those little everyday memories that pass too quickly - the first smiles, the tiny milestones, and the quiet moments that often go unwritten.

Because years later, those small details become the most precious stories.

You can find the journal here➡️ My Guided Baby Journal

Before You Go

If today felt a little grey where you are too, maybe this is your sign to slow down.

Bake something simple.
Let your child make a mess.
Write down one tiny memory from today.

Years from now, those little rainy day moments might be the ones you remember most.

And honestly…

They’re usually the sweetest ones.
