The Day I Tried to Be “That Organised Mum”… and Failed Gloriously

Motherhood • Real Life • Humour

Some mums wake up, drink their green smoothie, stretch like a peaceful cat, and glide through the day gracefully.

I… am not that mum.

The other day, I woke up FULL of determination.

Today, I will be organised, I declared.

Today I will be the mum who Meal Preps and Folds Things.

The mum whose house smells like vanilla candles and not like… whatever mystery smell lives in my fridge.

Spoiler:

I lasted 17 minutes.

Here’s how it went:

Step 1: Wake up early.

I set my alarm for 6am.

I woke up at 7:42am, confused, hair in a shape that looked like a surprised hedgehog.

Step 2: Make a healthy breakfast.

I attempted porridge.

It looked like something out of a horror movie.

We had toast.

Step 3: Clean the house “properly.”

I started strong - washing machine on, dishes soaking, music playing.

Then I found a random sock on the staircase, got distracted, and somehow ended up organising a drawer I haven’t opened since 2014.

Step 4: Meal prep.

Listen… I don’t know who invented meal prep, but they clearly don’t live with a child who changes her mind every 7 seconds.

“I don’t like chicken today.”

“You loved chicken yesterday!”

“Yesterday is not today.”

…fair enough.

Step 5: Stay calm and patient.

HAHAHAHA.

By 2pm, my patience had left the building.

By 3pm, so had my sanity. 🤯

By 4pm, I accepted defeat and made pasta again - because pasta never betrays you.

But here’s the good part:

Despite the chaos, the mess, the burnt porridge, and the sock that will haunt me forever…

My daughter laughed.

We had a silly moment dancing in the kitchen.

She told me she loved our “funny days.”

And suddenly being organised didn’t matter at all.

I realised something important:

Maybe I’m not THAT mum.

Maybe I’m just my kind of mum -

the weird, messy, loving, real one.

And maybe that’s even better.

If your life looks nothing like Pinterest and everything like a slightly chaotic sitcom…

hi, welcome. You’re not alone here.

Good night for now 😊❤️
